Here’s my first interview.

5finity Mixtape 1 by *dsoloud on deviantART

I ran across Danielle’s work on http://dsoloud.deviantart.com/ What caught my eye was an amazing colored drawing she did of Wonder Woman. I browsed her DA account and found that I’d like to find out more about what makes this Woman drawing Women Artist ticks. So I emailed her, asking to interview her for this blog-o-mine and she agreed.

MLL:Hello Danielle,

I came across this Wonder Woman illustration you did and posted on Deviantart.com >> http://dsoloud.deviantart.com/#/d2z6x71 It is a very beautiful image of WW. I also noticed that you’re submitting it to WW day 5. I followed the link and I’m going to be submitting one of my WW images as well.

I visited your site and found that you are a very talented and busy Artist. I’m blogging about leading ladies if film, comics & Art and would like to interview you. My blog >> http://www.myleadinglady.com/ The interview would be based on your opinion on how women are portrayed as heroes through Art images.

The interview would be by email. If you’re interested please reply to this email.

DS:Hey Kurt!

You have a wonderful website and thank you for the shout out on it. I would be honored to do an interview!

MLL:Cool!

Let’s get started then. Question #1
Your Vitals?

DS:Full Name: Danielle “Soloud” Gransaull

Age: 28

Where are you living? Orlando, FL

Art school grad or self taught? I took foundation courses at a local community college, but mostly self taught.

Artist that most influences you? Bruce Timm

Film that most influences you? I get loads of inspiration from movies but actually, a recent film I saw that I found really inspiring was Scott Pilgrim.

Comic Book that most influences you? The most inspirational comics for me ever were in 90′s – X-Men, Gen13, Wild C.A.T.S., and Cyberforce. As far as recent comics I would definitely have to say Blacksad.

A Woman that most influences you? My mom for sure.

MLL:question #2

Pick one Art image that you have done that shows a woman as “Strong, Smart & Sexy” and send a link of that image in this email.

DS:

Catwoman B and E by *dsoloud on deviantART

Catwoman definitely fits the ‘Strong, smart and sexy’ criteria and I usually try to display that any time I draw a strong female character.

MLL:This rendition of Catwoman is phenomenal! You’re right, this shows her as strong, smart & sexy.

Question #3

Are you a full time Artist professionally?

DS:Thank you! Yes, I am.

MLL:Question #4

What is it that inspires you to make your Art?

DS:I’m inspired by many things and try to constantly be open to inspiration such as in life, TV, movies, video games, books, comics, other’s art, and my dreams. Anything could generate a possible idea or inspiration, we just need to be open to it.

MLL:Question #5 your work.

What is a normal work day like for you?

DS:I wake up, get some breakfast, sit in front of the computer and surf the internet, check emails, blogs, whatever. Then it depends on how I feel. Sometimes I will watch a show or a movie, maybe read or I will just jump into drawing. This usually depends on how I’m feeling and how tight my deadlines are on that day. A lot of people go to work and then come home to unwind but I find I’m the opposite. I do that unwinding part before I begin work and then just work until I go to bed.

In regards to question #4 I left out music! Can’t believe I forgot that, but it’s also a huge inspiration.

MLL:Question #6
If you are stuck on a deserted island and could only have one book, CD & Dvd, what would they be?

DS:Aside from a sketchbook of course, the book choice would be Blacksad, the CD would be The Rolling Stones ‘Forty Licks’ compilation, and the DVD would be Season 5 of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Hopefully I have something to play the CD and DVD on!

MLL:Question #7
Tell us about your webcomic: “LIFE WITH DEATH”.
How did it start? What’s been the response? What are your hopes for its future?

Life with Death webcomic pg 1 by *dsoloud on deviantART

DS:Life with Death started as a fun idea I wanted to use to learn about comics and how to become better at them. It hasn’t even been around for a year yet and the response has been positive. As far as hopes for the future I can’t really hope for more than people continuing to enjoy reading it as I enjoy creating it!

MLL:Last. Question

When it’s all said and done, how do you want to be remembered as an Artist?

DS:This is something I hadn’t really thought about. I love to bring people joy so to be remembered for something like that would be amazing. I’m sure as I move deeper into my career my answer will evolve, but for now it’s pretty simple.

Thank you!

MLL:Thank-you Danielle!

Take care & keep creating.
Sincerely,
Kurt Brugel
